9 Tips to Help You Hire the Right Divorce Attorney

Divorce attorney

Hey, Katherine Miller here, and I want to share nine tips to help you hire the right divorce attorney.

Tip number one: Know what you want and understand your options. Divorce can be confusing, with so much information out there. Think through both the outcome you want and the process you’ll go through to achieve it.

Tip number two: Identify three attorneys and actually interview them. It’s tempting to go with the first attorney who seems to understand your problem, but it’s important to meet with all three to find the best fit.

Tip number three: Talk to people who’ve been through divorce about their experience with their attorney. Understand how it impacted their outcome and their satisfaction with the process.

Tip number four: Ensure the attorney has extensive experience with divorces and has represented clients similar to you.

Tip number five: Make sure the attorney is a good negotiator. Discuss their negotiation style and how it’s worked for other clients.

Tip number six: Ensure the attorney is both reasonable and candid. You need to understand where you stand with your case and that they’re open and honest with you.

Tip number seven: Find an attorney you’re compatible with. You need to feel good about working with this person through a challenging process.

Tip number eight: Ask the right questions. Prepare a list of questions ahead of time so you don’t forget anything important. Ensure the attorney can address all your concerns.

Tip number nine: Pay attention to red flags. If something doesn’t feel right, have the courage to walk away. Even if you’ve taken the time and paid the consultation fee, it’s okay to seek a better fit.

Although these tips might seem like common sense, you’ll be in an emotional space when meeting with an attorney. Don’t hesitate to reach out on our email address info@miller-law.com or call us at (914) 685-9805. Thanks for listening
