Films To Watch If You Are A Parent Getting Divorced

parent getting divorced

Everyone, or almost everyone, says they want to protect their children during a divorce. Who wouldn’t? No one wants to put their children through a difficult time, even when they themselves are struggling. Yet, it’s incredibly challenging not to make your children’s lives more difficult, more painful, and even a little scarier.

I’m Katherine Miller, and I’ve been a divorce attorney in New York City and New York State for over 30 years. I also host Divorce Dialogues, a radio show and podcast where I’ve been discussing divorce-related topics for almost a decade. Recently, I re-interviewed Ellen Bruno, a filmmaker who created the powerful film Split. In this film, Ellen interviews 12 children about their experiences with divorce. The film is profoundly moving, capturing their stories in their own words without any adult commentary.

When I first saw Split, I was brought to tears within the first five minutes and continued to cry throughout because of its raw and genuine portrayal of these children’s emotions and experiences. Ellen has since completed a follow-up film featuring the same 12 children, now teenagers and young adults, reflecting on their experiences a decade later. This film is equally impactful.

If you’re going through a divorce, or if you’re a parent of children—whether they’re young, teenagers, or adults—this film is an invaluable resource. I highly recommend watching Split and listening to the interview with Ellen Bruno on Divorce Dialogues. You can find it wherever you listen to podcasts or at divorcedialogues.com. If you need assistance finding the film, give us a call, and we’ll help you locate it.

Thanks for listening.
