How does the mediation process play out?

In mediation, people come to a series of facilitated meetings with the mediator and themselves and they identify the issues that need to be resolved. They gather the information that they need and create a shared understanding of their economic reality and then talk about what’s important to them and generate a series of options. We test the options against what’s important to them and against their financial reality and ultimately work through to a resolution that is then reduced to a settlement agreement and signed by the parties, and that settlement agreement then becomes the underlying basis of their divorce.
