What is collaborative law?

Collaborative law or collaborative divorce is a voluntary, out-of-court process where people make decisions about their children and their families and their finances based on what’s important to them, not based on what’s important to a stranger in a black robe.

It’s an integrative process and it’s an interdisciplinary process. People work with lawyers where the lawyers are disqualified from going to court. They’re disqualified from litigating. They work with mental health professionals who help them work through their parenting plan and their feelings as they untangle the marital dynamic, and they work with financial professionals who help them understand their economic reality and create a feasible, sustainable plan going forward for their cash flow and the division of their assets.
