Overview
A Harvard-trained attorney, Tamara Mitchel has decades of experience in challenging matrimonial and family law matters and is an acknowledged leader in the field. She has been described by her clients as a guiding light, puzzle master, manager of a daunting process with clear vision and deliberate execution, and a professional in all aspects of the word.
Tamara has been selected by peer review to Best Lawyers in America every year from 2018 through 2026, the Super Lawyers New York Metro list every year from 2013 through 2025 and was inducted into Marquis Who’s Who for Professional Excellence in Law in 2017. She received two Certificates of Distinguished Service awards from the Westchester County Office of the County Executive for services to domestic violence victims, and received the Diane White Legal Services Award from the Pace Women’s Justice Center.
Tamara has been a leading member of family law bar associations, devoted to improving the practice of family law. She has served on the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association Family Law Section and as Co-Chair of its Custody Committee; she also served as Chair of the Westchester County Bar Association Domestic Relations/Family Law Section. She is an Advisory Board member of the Pace Women’s Justice Center and is a co-founder and board member of New Dawn Family Resources Center, which supports domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking victims.
Tamara has also been a prolific writer and lecturer on family law to lawyers and the judiciary, including being Editor-In-Chief of the Domestic Law Review published by the Westchester County Bar Association Domestic and Family Law Section and authoring many accredited continuing legal education materials. Tamara’s charitable work also includes being a Fellow and Chair of the New York Bar Foundation 9th Judicial District Fellows through the present.
Tamara has a magna cum laude B.A. in Slavic Languages and Literatures from Harvard College, a J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School, and was a professional opera soloist, primarily in Europe, before devoting herself to the practice of law.
