A divorce facilitator in the UK says it reviewed almost 4,700 petitions filed so far this year. About 5% cite addiction to Fortnite and other online games as a cause of the marriage breakup.

I’ve had clients who may not specifically cite Fortnite but express similar concerns. They say things like, “He’s always on the couch playing games,” and feel distant from their partner because of it.

Renowned attorney Katherine Miller has written about poor communication as a major factor in divorce. She says technology is behind some of that.

“We see more issues with online pornography, online gaming, and texting. The inability to maintain a personal relationship because the digital world is so present and pressing is a growing concern,” she notes.
