Tips If You Are Divorcing
I’m not going to lie to you—getting divorced is really hard. How you treat yourself and approach the process can significantly impact whether it becomes even more challenging or perhaps a bit more manageable. I’m Katherine Miller, and I’ve been a divorce attorney in New York City and New York State for over 30 years. Here are some tips I believe can help you through this difficult time:
- Engage in Positive Self-Talk: It’s natural to be hard on yourself during a divorce. We often focus on our flaws and worry about others’ opinions. Instead, try to acknowledge and appreciate your strengths. Focus on the positive aspects of yourself and encourage yourself daily. This shift in mindset can greatly improve your experience.
- Look for Solutions: It’s easy to get caught up in problems and disagreements, but try to shift your focus to finding solutions. Identify small, actionable steps that can lead to a bigger resolution. Tackling issues one at a time can help you move towards a solution that works for everyone involved.
- Ask for Help: Seeking support is crucial. Reach out to friends, family, and others who have been through a divorce. Consult with professionals, such as divorce coaches or therapists, and utilize online resources and podcasts. Connecting with others and accessing these resources can help you feel less alone and more supported.
Thanks for listening.
